Voces Novae et Antiquae:
The voice of early and new choral music
| Voces Novae et Antiquae, a professional chorus based in Philadelphia, brings a unique perspective to the performance of both early and new choral music. VNA was launched by an inaugural demonstration concert on October 30, 1991 designed to introduce its choral concept and sound to the community. Since May of 1995, Voces Novae et Antiquae has been Chorus-In-Residence at the Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia. We have produced three commercial recordings on the Arkay label: choral music of Randall Thompson (May, 1991); the world premiere recording of Ben Steinberg’s Shomeir Yisrael (September, 1993); and The Gregorian Heritage (June, 1995). A live in-concert recording of our October 2000 joint performance with Gypsophilia, when we remembered you, was released in July, 2001 on the wyndfall label. In addition to Gypsophilia, VNA has collaborated in performance with Relâche, and has appeared in special concert performances at Gwynedd Mercy College, Bryn Mawr College, and Haverford College. |

Our sound
Our singers
| The concept and sound which is unique to VNA is a fresh, precise, straight-toned choral sound approached in the manner of chamber musica sound usually associated with early music but also applicable to music of our own time. We consider choral music to be one of the triumphs of our culture, and we strive to honor it with precise intonation, tight ensemble, and accurate performance. Hear our sound now. |
In seeking “choral musicians” rather than “singers,” we have assembled a group that knows how to blend and how to work together as a true ensemble rather than as a group of competing solo voices. Our singers are genuinely collegial, friendly and supportive of each other. |
