This program featured the Philadelphia premieres of Ruth Watson Henderson's Songs of the Nativity for treble voices and Hodie Christus Natus Est (1996–7) by Artistic Director Robert Ross, along with works by Elizabeth Alexander, Anton Bruckner, John Gardner, Lesley Hopwood Meyer, and Eric Whitacre on carol and non-liturgical poetry from the Medieval era through the modern era, including texts by Christina Rosetti, William Blake, Edward Esch, Katharine Lee Bates (author of “America the Beautiful”), Robert Lowery, and others. |
